What is Q-Switch laser?
This laser uses very fast pulses (nanoseconds) to deliver targeted light energy, suitable for destroying the pigments in a tattoo . The laser works by fragmenting these pigments into small particles which are then naturally eliminated by the cells of the immune system.
Indications for tattoo removal
Professional and amateur tattoos
Whether it's a professionally done tattoo or a home tattoo, the Q-Switch laser can handle all kinds of designs .
Black to red tattoos
Thanks to its 2 different wavelengths, the Q-Switch laser can treat black and brown to red permanent makeup, for example.
Old tattoos
Tattoos that have aged or whose pigments have migrated over time can also be effectively treated with this type of laser.
Course of a tattoo removal session
- Initial Consultation : During the initial consultation, our specialist will assess the size, color, location, and age of your tattoo. A diagnosis will be performed to establish a treatment plan tailored to your needs.
- The treatment :
Skin preparation : The area to be treated will be thoroughly cleansed and, in some cases, a soothing gel will be applied to make the treatment more comfortable.
Q-Switch Laser : The laser will be directed at the pigmented areas of the tattoo. You will feel a warm or tingling sensation during the treatment, but this sensation is generally well tolerated.
Session Length : Depending on the size and complexity of the tattoo, each session can last from 10 to 30 minutes.
- After treatment : It is common to see temporary swelling or redness on the treated skin. These side effects usually disappear within a few days. It is also imperative to avoid direct sun exposure.
Number of sessions and results
The number of sessions needed to achieve optimal results varies depending on several factors:
The size of the tattoo
The type of pigments used
The depth of the ink
- The Age of Tattooing
On average, between 8 and 10 sessions spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart are necessary to achieve complete removal. However, visible results can be observed from the first session , with a progressive deterioration of the tattoo over the course of treatments.
The results of the treatment are generally long-lasting and permanent , although small residual traces may sometimes persist depending on the depth of the tattoo.
Precautions and contraindications
Q-Switch laser treatment is very safe, but there are some contraindications:
Tanned skin : Treatment is not recommended if you are recently tanned or have very dark skin, as the laser could affect the epidermis.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding : Although there are no studies on the risks of laser tattoo removal during pregnancy, it is recommended to avoid treatment during this time.
- Skin infections or lesions : If the skin is irritated, infected or has lesions, treatment should not be performed.
After treatment, it is essential to follow your specialist's advice to avoid any complications, such as applying moisturizer and using broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect the skin.
